Killer is Dead announced

Grasshopper Manufacture are back and are making a title which made them famous. With Suda 51 again acting as executive director. "Killer is Dead" is set in the near future, and stars an executioner called Mondo Zappa who gets jobs from a cyborg who owns a hitman firm. I know right! Suda had this to say "it’s a personal story of a man who doesn't show himself much in the public world but still worms his way into society and mercilessly eliminates the evil dispersed in it.” Kinda reminds us of "No more Heroes" which if this game is half as good then we will surely be in for a treat. The game is due for a summer release on Xbox 360 and PS3 with Deep Silver acting as publisher. Check out the amazing trailer below:

CryEngine 3 Trailer

Crytek have shown of the new CryEngine 3 at this years GDC. It showcases breathtaking visuals of titles such as Big Read Button, Datex, Enodo, Cabal 2, Sniper 2, Godslayer, Warhorse and many more. Check out the video below for more info.

Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain

After many months of speculation Konami has finally announced that The Phantom Pain is Metal Gear Solid V and is the same game as Ground Zero. Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima appeared on stage at the GDC to announced the truth and that Moby Dick Studio's doesn't exist - yeah like we didn't know that! Hideo later revealed via a tweet that 'Ground Zeroes’ is a prologue of ‘MGSV’. 9 years after that event will be ‘The Phantom Pain’. MGSV is constructed w/ prologue and main game ‘TPP’. The game play demo I presented today is the opening of ‘TPP’ which is tutorial that starts from crawling.'

One surprise however was the fact that David Hayter who has gone on to be Solid Snake/ Big Boss in many titles along the series will not be reprising his role again himself tweeting
that he was not even contacted and asked to be apart of the game. One thing which baffles us is that the game has only so far been announced on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 which surely isn't possible with how great the game is looking. Most of Hideo's GDC talk revolved around the new Fox Engine technology that powers the game. He revealed that the aim was to make the visuals as photorealistic as possible, with many of the game’s assets scanned in directly from real life.

Dead Island: Riptide not coming to Wii U

According to an article (sourced from Gamespot) Dead Rising: Riptide will not be appearing on the Wii U which seems to be all i'm writing about this week. Day on day we find out that yet another game that is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 wont be coming to Wii U. According to the Techland representative Dead Island's engine would not need to be re-written in order to run on the Wii U and the decision not to release the game on the Wii U was not down to the game engine. The Techland representative had this to say "Wii U compatibility was coded, created, and tested months ago, back in 2012. There’s no 'rewriting' needed to make it work on Nintendo’s latest console. So the bottom line is that there were no plans to create a Wii U version but that decision had nothing to do with Chrome Engine’s inability to run on that platform".

It seems a real shame that a game that needs item management wont be on the Wii U as it would be really great to see another zombie survival horror game on Nintendo's console as we all know how awesome ZombiU turned out. Guess all the Nintendo Wii U owners can watch the trailer below and dream of what could have been.

SimCity sells 1.2 million since launch

SimCity has sold 1.2 million copies in two weeks despite a rocky launch which makes this the best selling Sim City game in the series. From the sales 54% were downloaded from an online store with Origin sales accounting for 44% of those. EA chief Peter Moore said "SimCity is one of the storied brands in gaming, and Maxis delivered a game re-envisioned and engineered for the online age," now i'm sure alot of people would disagree there as the game suffered lots of server crashes causing it to be unplayable for almost everyone.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution coming to Wii U

An amazon listing (resourced from Joystq) has all but confirmed that Deus Ex: Human Revolution is coming to the Wii U. The product description said that the game features additional content including using the Wii U GamePad with an augmentation called the Neural Hub. Square Enix is stated as publisher of the game but no developer is down as of yet.

If you can't remember how awesome this game was then check out the trailer below:

EA has one rough month!

So it turns out that gaming giant and mega publisher EA is not above having a real bad time every now and then. First of all EA comes under heavy pressure and a great deal of criticism much of it well deserved over the extremely botched launch of their latest SimCity game which left gamer's unable to play SimCity for days on end after huge server instability and failures preventing gamer's from accessing the online only game. This left EA and Maxis in a position in which they had no choice but to issue a public apology and although other areas such as the UK were not affected by this issue as much as the US EA has offered a free game to everyone world wide who registers their copy of SimCity prior to the morning of the 26th of March as part of their apology .

The list of free games that you can download from their origin service is quite a wide selection to choose from however you do have to download your free game before the 31st of March. The games in that list of freebies include Battlefield 3, Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 3, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Plants vs Zombies, and SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition. Yes Really! in a effort to apologies to customers who can not play the latest SimCity off line they are offering a previous version of Simcity which has a dedicated offline mode in it am i the only one who finds this a bit strange?

So that's the first headache for EA but not the last. Following the sham of the SimCity launch John Riccitiello the CEO of EA has announced that he will be stepping down from his position as CEO on March 30th. John Riccitiello has been quoted as saying. "My decision to leave EA is really all about my accountability for the shortcomings in our financial results this year." EA has decided to post Larry Probst as executive chairman while the company searches for Riccitiello's replacement. Probst was CEO of EA from 1991 to 2007 when Riccitiello took over.

So as far as things go a pretty shitty time for EA so far but there is one last kick in the teeth for the company this week. Well the say trouble comes in threes and earlier today it was revealed that a third-party security company called ReVuln was running tests on Origin EAs online game store's software when they discovered that the software had been hacked. A exploit that allows a malicious user to swap links that launch already-downloaded games with those for alternatives. For more info on this exploit click here.

So EA are not having a great time at all at the moment lets hope that there string of misfortune does not continue for much longer for their sake and the sake of the customers on the receiving end of some of these problems.

Double Fine say goodbye to legend

Double fine studios have said goodbye to one of video gaming's legends Ron Gilbert.
Ron Gilbert is one of the all time legends in video gaming classics. Ron is best known for his Adventure games . While working for Lucas arts Ron worked on several popular titles like Manic Mansion, Indiana Jones and the last crusade graphic adventure and the hugely popular The Secret Of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2 Le-chuck's Revenge as well as many others great titles. Two years ago Ron went to work at Double Fine studios with long time friend and work mate Tim Schafer taking the title of "Official Ron Gilbert"

Now that that games is finished Ron has decided that it is time to move on but from the sounds of it he still intends to remain in the video game development industry having wrote on his Grumpy Gamer blog.

"Now that The Cave is done and unleashed on an unsuspecting world (OK, we did do a bunch of PR, so it wasn't exactly unsuspecting), it's time for me to move on from Double Fine and plot my next move.
While he worked at Double Fine Ron co developed and released The Cave a Game that he had been thinking about making since his earliest days in Video game development.
So many games left to be designed. I want to thank all the amazing people at Double Fine for all their hard work on The Cave. It was a true pleasure to work with every one of them over the past two years. So much fun. I will miss them all. And of course to Tim for creating the opportunity to come there and make the cave."

So although it looks like Gilbert still plans on making great games its no doubt that he will be greatly missed by all the guys at Double Fine studios.

Dad Hacks Donkey Kong

A gamer named Mike Mika has hacked Donkey Kong so that his daughter can play as Pauline. Mike's young daughter asked if she could play as Pauline and save Mario so Mike decided to hack the game so his daughter could do just that. Mika's Donkey Kong: Pauline Edition lets Pauline rescue Mario for a change from the clutches of Donkey Kong. Mike's daughter had been playing Super Mario Bros 2 as Princess Toadstool when she asked why couldn't do the same in Donkey Kong. So Super Dad came along to save the day!

"My three year old daughter and I play a lot of old games together," Mika wrote on his YouTube channel. "Her favorite is Donkey Kong. Two days ago, she asked me if she could play as the girl and save Mario. She's played as Peach in Super Mario Bros. 2 and naturally just assumed she could do the same in Donkey Kong. I told her we couldn't in that particular Mario game, she seemed really bummed out by that. So what else am I supposed to do? Now I'm up at midnight hacking the ROM, replacing Mario with Pauline."
Check out the video of Mika's hack below.

The patch is available so you can try the game as Pauline yourselves.
